Henry Hicks (1945/09/15)

Henry Hicks has been included among local servicemen who died while on active duty during a war period based upon a Watsonville Register-Pajaronian obituary dated September 22, 1945.

“Military Rites for Staff Sergeant Henry Hicks
Acting as pallbearers and participating in a full military burial service, 18 members of the US Marine Corps from Moffett field were here Saturday morning for the last rites for Staff Sergeant Henry Hicks, 39, marine who died at Oak Knoll hospital, Oakland, Sept. 15. Also present were marines from the western procurement division with whom sergeant Hicks worked.
From Mel's chapel, the cortege went to St. Patrick's church where Low Mass of requiem was celebrated by the Rev. Fr. James Maroon. Burial was in the family plot in the Valley Catholic cemetery where military honors were given Hicks. The simple headstone above his plot provides no additional information regarding this marine.”

The Valley Catholic Cemetery on Hecker Pass Road in Watsonville confirms the burial of Henry Hicks; however, no additional information regarding his life or death has been found.
