Glenn L. Coquilette (1944/12/07)

When Glenn Coquilette entered the US Army during World War II, he declared that he was a resident of Santa Cruz County, California. Record of that enlistment or his connection with the county has not been located.

Glenn L. Coquilette, the son of Glenn and Esther Coquilette, was born in McHenry County, Illinois, in the early 1920s. Census records indicate that he may have also had an older sister, Dawn.

The American Battlefield Monuments Commission report reveals that Private Glenn L. Coquilette of the 13th Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division entered the service from California and died on December 7, 1944. The US War Department records add that Coquilette was from Santa Cruz County, California, and was killed in action.

At the period of Glenn Coquilette's death, the German forces in the area where his unit was serving had begun a massive counter-attack. The 13th Division held the area in the vicinity of Kleinhau until relieved by the 121st Regiment. It is likely that it was in these combat engagements that Coquilette was killed.

Private Glenn L. Coquilette is buried at Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery in Henri-Chapelle Belgium. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
