Frederick C. Dodge (1944/07/03)

Frederick Dodge is another of the casualties appearing in the May 30, 1945, Santa Cruz Sentinel Honor Roll with a limited local connection.

Frederick Clarence Dodge was born in 1894 in Washington State, but census records fail to indicate how long he remained in that state. In 1920, he was serving as a boatswain aboard a US steamship sailing out of Brooklyn, New York. He continued to ply the sea for a living and had earned his Master Mariner license and command of his own ship by 1942.

During World War II, his wife Evelyn established residency in Santa Cruz while he served at sea as a Merchant Marine captain.

The American Battlefield Monument Commission records do not specify whether Dodge died on the Philippine Islands or at sea. They only report that he died on July 3, 1944.

The remains of Captain Frederick C. Dodge were buried in the Manila American Cemetery.
