Glen W. Chamberlain (1944/05/28)

A retread doughboy returned to "the Corps."

Glen Watson Chamberlain was born in Kansas on July 29, 1893. Details of his family and formative years are unavailable. When World War I began, Chamberlain joined the US Marine Corps and was discharged at its conclusion. After the war, he returned home and married Beatrice. The couple later had two sons.

The Chamberlains settled in Watsonville during the 1920s, and Glen became involved in the business and social life of the community. He acquired the local Chevrolet dealership and was active in the Kiwanis and Breakfast clubs.

About 1934 the Chamberlains moved to Oakland where Glen, acquired another auto dealership and joined the American Legion and the Masonic lodge.

When World War II began, Glen Chamberlain once again volunteered his services to the US Marine Corps; he was accepted and commissioned a Captain. His knowledge of automotives was put to use by the Marine Corps in their transportation section; he was posted to Guadalcanal.

While serving in the South Pacific, Captain Chamberlain contracted a severe case of malaria and was returned home for treatment. Attempts to cure his condition were unsuccessful and he died on May 28, 1944, in Alameda County. The burial location of Chamberlain has not been identified.
