Joseph D. Sosbee (1943/07/18)

Joseph D. Sosbee's relationship with Santa Cruz County was minimal. He is included in this book because of his listing in the Santa Cruz Sentinel May 31,1945, Honor Roll.

The US Census of 1920 indicates that he was born in Arkansas (possibly Russellville) about 1919 to Joseph A. and Clara Sosbee. A photo suggests that he may have attended a military academy prior to being commissioned in the US Coast Guard. Sosbee was married and had a son Stuart, who was twenty months old when the family moved to Santa Cruz. At the time of his death he had just been promoted to Lt. (jg) and was the head of a photogrammetric mission in defense-related work in the Aleutian Islands. The location of his remains, if recovered, is unknown.
