"Son of Soquel Man Killed in Training Plane" brought a Memorial Day message home to Santa Cruz Sentinel readers.

The United States War Department List of Dead and Missing World War II Casualties for the County of Santa Cruz includes the name of Flight Officer Charles B. Edwards. Nothing, in addition to the below newspaper clipping, has been uncovered regarding this individual.

"Son of Soquel Man Killed in Training Plane"
Flight officer Charles B. Edwards, son of William H. Edwards of Soquel, was killed Friday night in the crash of a cub trainer plane at the army air base at Alliance, Neb., according to an Associate Press report. The cause of the crash, a few miles west of the air base, was not determined, said the statement by the public relations officer. William H. Edwards is a resident of the Monterey Bay Country club tract just east of Soquel."

An Aviation Archaeological Investigation and Report confirms that Charles B. Edwards was flying an L-3B aircraft when it crashed at the Alliance, Nebraska Municipal Airport on May 28, 1943, and was totally destroyed. The location of his remains, if recovered, is not known.
