One of the trees is over 100 years old on West Cliff Drive and another is at the corner of Soquel Drive and 7th AVenue. There have been several attempts to establish a cork business in Santa Cruz but they never took hold due to the long lag time in getting to harvest and the insufficient amounts able to be converted into a profitable amount of corks.
