Where pioneer kids learned their ABC's
The home was built at the base of a hill where California Street runs today. It was owned by Benjamin and Mary Case who moved to Santa Cruz in 1847. They chose to open a school for local children to learn to read and write as there was no other schoo available. The house was documented with a drawing by a local school teacher in 1938. the article mentions a connection to the Case daughter Kate who lived nearby.
