Frederick Dimeo and a friend came from Italy and worked as farm hands on farms along the coast north of Santa Cruz. When they had raised enough money they bought their own land and grew artichokes. Later, as the farm expanded, the ranch raised hogs and then sheep. It is one of the few ranches on the North Coast still run by the original family.
