Emmie has Memories of Old Soquel
The Park Hotel was located across from the current Socuel Elementary and many German families stayed there on week-ends and in the Summer. The restaurant served German fare and on week-ends her mother’s famous Apple Streusal. She remembers barbecues at the Odd Fellows and bonfires on the beach at CApitola. AFter she married William Thompson, she lived in San Francisco until the big quake and then Yreka. Upon his death she moved back to Soquel to live with her sister whose husband operated the Soquel paper mill and provided paper to San Francisco by freight boat.
