The article describes Fred Wagner and his wife Amaya Benito Wagner as hailing from pioneer families. Fred’s family was in the tannery business and also bought several pieces of property, one was the Rancho Tre de Aguas on Highland Street where Fred and Amaya live today. Another piece of property was developed into the picnic spot Wagner’s Grove before it was sold to Harvey West and given to the city for a park. Amaya’s family once owned most of East Santa Cruz.
