Town, gown communities moving closer together

The article describes the aspirations of the community when the campus first opened for a more stable housing market and support of the businesses in downtown. However, the students that came to the university in the early years were not in sync with the conservative views of Santa Cruz at the time and friction arose. Former chancellor McHenry states that relationships were improving at the time of this article but there continues to be a lack of connection between the two which could be bridged with more community venues and increasing the sports program.
