The first Methodist Church was built in 1874 by James Perry when he had established the town of Lorenzo down the road from Boulder Creek. That church burned down in 1885 and was rebuilt in the same year. The church was burned again in 1907 possibly by arson related to prohibition conflicts and the saloons. That church was rebuilt with donations from Mrs. Dool and James Perry.
