Big Basin Hotel

The Big Basin Hotel was built by Henry Middleton at the corner of Highway 9 and the Road to Big Basin. Across the street was the park that was built by the Southern Pacific Railroad which was eventually replaced by the Fire Station. The Big Basin Hotel was bought by Jerry and Pete Locatelli in 1945 who changed the name to the Alpine Inn. They sold it to Johnny Montatari in the 1950s who razed the building and replaced it with Johnny’s Market.
