Billy Dool helped preserve
Article covers the history behind the four men credited with helping big Basin get started and attempts to correct the story about who gets the most credit. The four men were Arthur Hill, photojournalist who roused leaders in the public to help conserve the redwoods, Billy Dool who was once mayor of Boulder Creek and friend of Henry Middleton, Henry Middleton, wealthy timber baron, and Thomas Maddock, first settler of Big Basin area. Henry Middleton had been intent on harvesting the Big Basin Trees but stopped due to an intervention from his friend Billy Dool and the author claims that had that not happened Middleton would have proceeded. The article then talks about Billy Dool himself who was an avid walker all his life and extremely dedicated as the first ranger to the new park.
