Arson suspected in schoohouse fire

Owned by Thomas Alfred Carey who lived next door, it is believe that a man named Shawn Roy Collins set the fire to distract from burglarizing the next door house. The schoolhouse was totally destroyed. It used to be a part of the Bald Mountain School District before merging with Santa Cruz. It was built in 1924 replacing the earlier school house further up Smith Grade. Carey bought the schoolhouse rather than have it torn down and refurbished it for his daughter originally. Recently it was used as a storage shed.
