Once called Dogtown
Noted is the booming lumber industry and the many businesses that were set up in Boulder Creek to serve the needs of the lumbermen. The flume supported the transfer of lumber from Boulder Creek until the railroad was put in between Boulder Creek and Felton. Lorenzo was known as Dogtown but it was soon subsumed by the new town of Boulder Creek. In 1876 Boulder Creek had 9 blocks of businesses. The article lists many first businesses such as hotels, schools, churches, butchers, post offices, etc. An excerpt is also included about some of the gamblers and other well known characters that lived in the area.
