Life Story of George DeLeon Cress

Details of George Cress’s life from arrival in California in 1882, time in Sacramento and Napa ranching with his family, adventures in Nome Alaska in the Gold Rush and settling down in Boulder Creek with his friend Fred Moody to start a Livery business. The Livery Business was an instrumental part of early Boulder Creek history due to its contribution to the development of transportation, recreation, and road construction in the area. He was also very involved in the umber industry in hauling wood products to market. The Livery Stable turned into a gas station with the advent of cars and George transferred ownship of the business to his son and went on to be a civic leader in the community for many years. Along the way, he married Fred’s sister Mildred and they raised four children. The document has wonderful detail of other pioneer families in Boulder Creek, the political system, other businesses, and events of everyday life. George Cress lived in Boulder Creek for 70 years and died on Christmas Day 1974, a beloved member of the community.
