Reader recounts details of Big Basin's founder
The reader takes issue with the portrayal of Hill as dying destitute and alone and also the story of the confrontation with Joseph Welch over photographs taken of redwood trees. The Arthur presents alternate sources to support the different interpretations that the arguement between Welch and Hill was over permission to photograph private property and not over whether the redwoods were to be preserved. The Editor of the Sentinel presents Kirkham’s sources and confirms two mistakes made in the original article.
