Early history of Telephone Services in Santa Cruz
Article details the history of phone coverage in the Santa Cruz area including the trial of “acoustic telephones” using pipes and diaphragms between two points before Alexander Graham Bell invented the electronic telephone. The first electronic telephone system was installed in 1882 when the sixteenth exchange in California was installed in Santa Cruz County. Several business are listed as early adopters of the new technology including Pacific Ocean House and City Stables.
