Down Memory Lane- Parlor cars, trestles, turntables, steam whistles

The narrow gauge railroad was from Alameda and passed dwn the Santa Clara Valley before turning to go over the summit. It went through a series of tunnels to come out near Los Gatos and then on to Felton for a stop before heading to Santa Cruz. The narrow gauge train ran its last run riht before the 1906 earthquake that destroyed the tunnels at the summit. The wide gauge trains ran over the same route until World War II when most traffice replaced by cars. The article contains many other memories of what children did on vacation in the San Lorenzo Valley and the role of transportation in getting families there.
