Old Presbyterian Church

Overview of the history of the Faye Belardi Memorial Library and its designation as a historically significant building. The benefits of this designation are listed including preservation of the building, possibility of grant funding for improvements, and the building gains national recognition. It was built in 1893 after land was provided for its use in 1869. It served as the original Presbyterian Church until the congregation moved to larger quarters. At the same time the town was faced with the need to move the current library out of the Community Hall. Nick Belardi and his wife had bought the old building with the intent to dismantle it for the property however Mrs Belardi died in an auto accident and those plans were abandoned. Mr. Belardi decided to sell the house and property for below market price as long as it was to become a library. The rest of the resources came from volunteers and townspeople. The new library was dedicated in 1973.
