Isaac Graham, the Zayante firebrand, had such a temper his wife ran away

Concise history of major drivers in Felton’s history. Majors marries a Spanish native and inherits Rancho Zayante and Rancho Agustin. Isaac Graham begins his industries after being released from Mexican jail on charges of conspiracy to overthrow the Mexican government. He builds a lumber mill and a distillery and does some mining on property he buys from Majors and Iives a colorful life. The lumber industry blossoms and Edward Stanley buys some of Graham’s land to lay out the town of Felton. Felton becomes a lumber, lime and railroad center in the Valley before operations began to move on up the valley to new territory and the railroads follow. Felton becomes a tourist town with people from the Bay Area riding the trains for picnics and sightseeing in the redwoods. Several disastrous floods and fires destroy parts of Felton in the early twentieth century. Felton is rebuilt but now is a quiet tourist town that turns to preserving its historical buildings and way of life.
