that was...

The site of the camp was once a camp for the Zayante Indians and Isaac Graham once owned some of the property and built his house there. In 1905 four ministers got together and decided there was a need for a permanent Christian camp and looked at several mountain resorts for the right place. The area already had a beautiful lodge and cabins. The property was bought for $40,000 dollars and was paid for by the originators as well as stock was sold to make up the difference. In exchange for the investment 200 acres was set aside for 1100 lots for housing. A fire burned some of the early buildings near where Ponderosa Camp is today and new buildings were built along Mt Hermon Road. The camp is now successful as a year round Christian camp for groups and individuals.
