Santa Cruz County's Own Modest Gold Rush

Describes history of gold mining in Santa Cruz which is believed to have been known about even before Sutter’s Mill. References from the mid 1800s mention Gold Gulch. Small amounts of gold have been discovered in most major creeks in the county and on severa beaches. Quartz mining was also an industry in the mountains and Isaac Graham has been said to have discovered silver on his property. In general, the amount of gold taken out of Santa Cruz County was small and eventually operations were stopped with the last known attempts in Gold Gulch in 1957.
