Felton was Laid Out by Edward Stanley

Driven by the railroad, lumber and lime, Felton grew rapidly and the chapter highlights all of the new businesses that moved into town including post office, livery stables, hotels, restaurants, blacksmiths, and churches. Roads were built to connect Felton to Santa Cruz and rail lines were laid to connect the upper Valley lumber to the railroads in Felton. Several large fires burned much of the late 1800s buildings in Felton and the lumber operations moved up the Valley with the added railroad. Felton became a residential area and tourist center afterwards.
