Highways built on old roads

Article describes the history of several roads in common use today in the Santa Cruz area which were once logging and dirt freight roads used to support the lumber and lime industry. Specific roads mentioned are Graham Road, and the toll road which is now Highway 9, both in place since the 1880s. The author describes many of the landmarks along the way and the landscape of trees and flowers that were seen. All sorts of wagons were used but the biggest carried lumber products hauled by oxen and mules with bells on to warn oncoming traffic.
