Henry Cowell arrived from the East Coast and made a name for himself in the cattle and land business. His son Harry was one of five children and went on to maintain and grow the land holdings as well as operate a lime and cement business. His home was on the hills above Bay and High Street and his lime operation and transport business was significant in the county. At ninety-two he lives by himself in San Francisco having never married.
