Did Captain Fremont camp in the Redwood Tree at Cowell?

Fremont came to the area to try to enlist Isaac Graham of Zayante to inspire others to revolt against the Mexican Government but he was turned down by the older man. He did stay in big Trees and when asked if he slept inside a tree he replied, “it’s a good story, so let it stand”.
