Valley declared a disaster area

Debate broke out at a recent Supervisors meeting about whether the state should be approached about declaring a disaster for the area due to remaining storm damage and the debris which presents a fire hazard. Several at the meeting noted that it is already three weeks since the storm and some of the damage would not be covered by disaster funds. Others noted that San Lorenzo could always rescind the request if they decide that they don’t need it. As it turns out, the County needed to request funds within 10 days of the event so it is too late. They will attempt to appeal through special legislation to waive the restriction but most feel the chances are not good.
