Ben Lomond....A Bit of Scotland Near Santa Cruz

Article recounts the history of Ben Lomond from early days as a lumber center that took the name Ben Lomond, a nearby mountain, when it was told it couldn’t use the name Pacific Mills. When the lumber played out, the town began to decline until Elisha Brooks created an Improvement Club and worked to renovated the town and attract summer visitors. His work was successful and the town adopted the Scottish theme in its naming of business, roads and lakes.
