Al Smith of Orchard Supply fame has sold a large tract of land and a wel-known house to Cal State San Luis Obispo to prevent development of the property. The students are to live and study on the property. Irene Bianconi remembers living in the house amidst a large Italian-American settlement in Swanton. There used to be big dances in the barn in back of the house. And her mother would make pots of ravioli in the kitchen and sell it to people who drove from Santa Cruz.
