Brief History of The Falls/Love Creek
The paper details the original settlement of the Bennett Family who opened a mill in the area. That mills was later sold to pay off a debt and subsequent owners continued mill operations through floods and fires. James Pierce owned a large tract of land in the 1877 and began to remove most of the remaining timber and, being proactive, he also laid out the town of Pacific Mills (soon to be named Ben Lomond). The resort era began once all the timber was gone and there continued to be small efforts with orchards and farming as well. Ben Lomond became a well known resort area for families from the Bay Area in the early 1900s and any of the original cabins are more recently being converted to full time homes. The conclusion of the paper is devoted to the “Falls” area near Love Creek and recent archeological finds that might indicate the original Bennett mill from long ago.
