The Highwaymen of the Early Days of California

Article portrays negative picture of Harry Love with a focus on his time with the army in Texas. the article claims that in a battle where the rest of the soldiers charged yelling “Remember the Alamo”, Harry Love ran away to the field hospital and told the wounded soldiers that they should swim across the river to escape the advancing army of Mexico. They refused and were later joined by the victorious Americans. Harry was discharged from the army for cowardice, the author also tells the story of the shooting of Ned Bingham on a boat trip to the Panama Canal where Harry Love was chosen by a group of passengers to do the deed over an affair with a married woman. The author mentions later if Love’s life his marriage to Mary Bennett and death by gunshot wound.
