Local pride keeps 2 libraries alive
Two libraries that were slated to close due to budget costs post Prop 13, are being kept open with volunteer support and donations from the community for support. Ben Lomond Community Library has seen a 40% increase in visits since the change where both Ben LSeveral donors from the Lomond and Soquel branches severed ties with the County Library system. Several cash donations from the community such as $500 dollars from realtor Carl Conelly and $200 from County Bank. Along with the books left by the County , Fay Ellis has purchased another 400 books at a discount to replenish the shelves. Two other branches in La Selva and Freedom have not completely severed their ties with the County but are relying on new models involving voluntteers or members of the school system.
