Once doomed, library is thriving
Ben Lomond Community Library is performing well in its new organization made up of community volunteers. The article gives a brief history of the financial challenges the library has faced and it was closed for 6 months after Prop 13 past. When it re-opened it was for minimal hours and the Library System decided it was to be closed permanently. The community of Ben Lomond came up with a plan and established a volunteer run model that is separate from the City-County system and circulation is up over 60%. Costs have dropped to $15 per day versus $100 per day in the old model.
