Indian language experts will gather
UC Santa Cruz is hosting a conference of experts in Native Languages. Local indigenous people were not related by tribes but were village groups. Native people from the Aptos, Soquel and Zayante groups spoke Awaswas. Village groups from the Monterey area spoke Rumsen which is similar to languages spoken from Suisun Bay to Soledad. Speakers at the conference have presented papers and made recordings of native speakers and will be sharing their unique knowledge with their colleagues.
