American Houses: The Way They Were

Review of the development of single family homes between 1900 to 1940 propelled by a focus on convenience and designed with the middle class owner in mind. The article reviews the trend of buying your home and a put together kit and sold by Sears and robuck. Also a change from the dark cramped Victorian style to lighter, more open, with a focus on the kitchen as a family center. the houses were small at 800-1000 feet but had many different styles to choose from.
