May Day Customs

History of May Day in many countries includes May Pole dancing, going into the forest to gather flowers and garlands for the May Pole (going a-Maying). Also children make May baskets and leave them on the doorstep of friends. Young girls received flowers from suitors that they carry with them on May Day. In the country May day is a cause for celebrating that winter is almost over. May Day in the city is associated less with nature and more with fun and festivities (and possibly moving).
