Purchase of the two devices costs around $13,000 and was raised by the community. Bonny Doon were spurred on by a recent fatal accident in which a man was pinned in his truck. Normally Bonny Doon and Ben Lomond Fire Departments would need to borrow a Jaws of Life from Scotts Valley which could take 20 minutes to get to the site. Most accidents in the mountains are either head on accidents or car vs tree.
