Friends and work associates praised Mike Smith for his leadership during the Love Creek tragedy and disaster recovery and his support of his team during emergencies and also community events like the Fire Muster. Smith had several health challenges throughout his life, finally succumbing to cancer but he demonstrated courage and optimism throughout.
