The 1905 Scandal of Ben Lomond

Account of the story of C.P. Davis who opened many businesses in Ben Lomond including the Ben Lomond News, a realty company and a bank among others. Through a surprise meeting with someone who knew Davis under the name Probert, and knew of the accusations of fake medical licenses and other crimes in Chicago, Davis’ secret life was exposed. He had left a trail of failed banks and bad business dealings in Wisconsin and Portland as well and photos sent from law enforcement in those cities confirmed the connection. While under interrogation by the D.A. In Santa Cruz he disappeared and left all of the business problems, creditors, and angry citizens to be straightened out by his wife. She managed the Ben Lomond News as an experienced newspaper woman but finally all remaining property was sold at auction and divided amongst the creditors.
