Brookdale's lodge was world-famed

The area first had a lumber mill operations but later grew with the addition of post offices, train depots, and pool halls. People took the train over the hill to dine at the Brookdale Lodge where trout was the specialty. Many celebrities visited the lodge including some sitting Presidents. Over the years autos replaced trains and the Brookdale area was supplanted by other recreational opportunities.
