Valley forests lured early settlers
Early transport of lumber was tedious by ox and wagon down dirt roads. Details the development of the flume system to move lumber down the canyon from the lumber mills. it was downloaded in Felton onto a narrow gauge railroad system to be taken to the port in Santa Cruz. Much of the timber products were used to develop the towns in the valley, building houses, hotels, schools and business establishments. Early settlers mentioned were the Maddock family, J. Abram, Tom Hunt, and others.
