Four Former Local Japanese-Americans Leave Poston For Army

POSTON, Ariz.(Special to Register-Pajaronian) --Four former residents of Watsonville were among 74 Japanese-Americans leaving here Friday for Fort Douglas, Utah, for entry into the United States army.

All former residents of Watsonville Union High school, they are Itsumi Oita, son of Hirosaburo Oita, who also attended Muskingum college at New Concord, O.; Tameki Tommy Kokka, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Kokka, who later attended Michigan State Normal college; Minoru Takata, son of Mr. and Mrs. Yoichi Takata, and Ichiro Sam Sugodono, son of Roy S. Sugidono.

At Watsonville young Oita played football and Kokka basketball. Kokka was vice president of his high school freshman class. His parents were proprietors of a candy store at 142 Main St. All except young Sugidono were graduated from Poston High school in 1943. Sugidono was a graduate of Watsonville Union High school with the class of 1942 and for a time worked in his father's garage there.
