By unanimous vote, supervisors of Santa Cruz county Friday afternoon approved a resolution protesting removal of evacuated Japanese from War Relocation centers unless under specific orders and direction of the United States army and also protesting inclusion of American-born Japanese into the U.S. army.

The resolution was patterned after those recently adopted by Monterey and San Benito counties. In turn, those counties had patterned their resolutions on the one passed early in February here by the Pajaro Valley and Watsonville Defense council.

Supervisor Bert Lewis of Watsonville declared he believed it was a big mistake to allow native born Japanese to join the American armed forces and urged that this particular protest in the resolution be stressed.

A similar resolution also has been adopted by groups at Hanford and Sacramento. Many local organizations also have approved the resolution adopted by the defense council.

One of the strongest voices raised against allowing Japanese to return to the coast area is that of Maj.-Gen. J.L. DeWitt, commanding officer of the Western defense command. A fortnight ago he told a special house naval affairs committee that he is opposed to plans allowing the Japs to return to evacuated areas and press dispatches indicated his opposition had upset WRA plans for releasing thousands of evacuees from relocation centers.
