Aliens! Warnings Are Given

Don't sell property at sacrifice prices, continue to work your crops until exclusion is ordered officially, Santa Cruz county Japanese-Americans and affected aliens of the three enemy nations were cautioned Monday by the military. Exclusion has not yet been ordered, it was stressed.

This word of caution to groups affected by the recent proclamation of Lieutenant General John L. DeWitt prescribing Military Areas No. 1 and No. 2, was issued by Headquarters Western Defense Command and Fourth Army, which is arranging for the exclusion of certain classes of residents from strategic military areas.

The army called attention to the following advice to enemy aliens and Japanese-American citizens, issued on March 4 by the California United States department of agriculture's war board:

1. As the best possible evidence of their loyalty to this country and directly in line with the Food-for-Freedom campaign, Japanese and alien Italians and Germans who may be required to move should continue their farming operations. No operations should be neglected which in any way would hinder maximum development of their crops, and no crops should be destroyed, but all should be cared for and carried on in the best manner.

2. These same people should not dispose of property, real or personal, or their possessions of any kind at sacrifice figures. Federal officials are now being appointed to assist them in their handling and transfer of their property. Until they have an opportunity to turn their business over to a regularly-appointed custodian, such persons should not dispose of their possessions unless they receive full value in return.
