60 DAYS IN WHICH ALL MUST GO

Evacuation of all Japanese, alien and citizen, and Italian and German aliens, will be conducted first in such seaport areas as Santa Cruz under the new orders, Tom C. Clark, coordinator of alien control and chief of staff of Gen. DeWitt's civilian alien-control committee, made known Thursday. Such evacuation must be made within 60 days.

Such areas include Santa Cruz, San Francisco, San Pedro, San Diego, Eureka, Watsonville and others.

Evacuation of Japanese will be followed by removal of alien Italians and Germans, except those exempt by age or those families with sons in the service in the latter cases.

PREPARING

Alien control authorities already are erecting buildings, setting up schools, churches, workshops and stores in the interior to receive the aliens.

Such a typical area is the rich Owens valley, to receive Los Angeles' load. This area is in Inyo county between Mt. Whitney and Death Valley.

Meantime reports here indicated Thursday that Japanese are already making ready to leave and that Italian and German aliens, next to go, are preparing.

It is the suggestion of Clark, that the evacuees will be returned to their homes at the end of the war and the current evacuation settlements be transformed into recreation and rehabilitation centers for war veterans.

Following the seaport removals, Clark said, the next group to be removed will be those dwelling near airports and factories, then those near aqueducts, forests and similar establishments.

He promised full protection for evacuated property owners.
