Highlighting the 35 resolutions adopted by the Monterey county agricultural conference in Salinas last week was one recommending removal of alien Japanese from coastal areas.

This resolution was in variance to a similar resolution adopted earlier in the week by the Santa Cruz county economic conference which recommended that Japanese not be removed from coastal areas but instead be retained for agricultural work under close surveillance. The Santa Cruz group cited the shortage of farm labor as the reason for the recommendation. The Monterey county recommendation read:

"It is resolved that this group meeting of agricultural leaders of Monterey county do call to the attention of the president of the United States, congress, all government officials in Washington, also state and county officials and the people of the United States the serious situation, the potential Pearl Harbor, facing the Pacific coast through the presence of people of Japanese blood. We recommend that all legal measures be immediately instituted to remove all alien Japanese and Japanese of dual citizenship at least 300 miles inland and we further recommend that the United States government under the emergency authority invested in them remove at once for their own protection all people of Japanese blood from the Pacific coast for the duration of the war."
