Santa Cruz Sentinel (May 15, 1903)On Thursday Horace Wanzer died suddenly in Modesto where he was engaged in surveying.
He formerly resided here serving a number of years as county clerk. Nine years ago he left Santa Cruz to follow his profession of surveying. His family is now in the East. His brother J.O. Wanzer is a resident of this city. Deceased was a native of New York aged 56 years.

The funeral of Horace Wanzer was held this morning from the residence of his nephew, H.S. Wanzer. The interment will be at Odd Fellows cemetery and the services were conducted by Rev. C.O. Tillotson of Calvary Episcopal Church.

The funeral of Horace Wanzer took place Tuesday, Rev. C.O. Tillotson officiating. Deceased was the first commander of Reynolds Post G.A.R. Interment was in Odd Fellows cemetery.

The imposing gentleman with the silk hat is Horace Wanzer, a son of the pioneer James O. Wanzer. Horace held a number of posts as deputy in the courthouse and left Santa Cruz in 1894 to practice as a civil engineer until he died in Modesto in 1903.
